How do I calculate my future due date?

A full-term pregnancy can last anywhere from 37 to 42 weeks. However, 40 weeks or 280 days is considered to be the average gestational period. Hence, the best way to calculate your due date is by adding 40 weeks (or 280 days) to the first day of your LMP. This is just an estimation. Not all babies arrive on the exact estimated date of delivery (EDD). With our due date calculator, you can estimate when your baby will arrive. Even your OB-GYN or midwife cannot help you with the exact date and time your baby wants to pop out.

Babies are conceived only in and around ovulation. It is almost impossible to predict the exact date of conception because the sperms stay in the women’s body for upto 5 days after intercourse. Most women cannot realise they are pregnant unless there is a missed period. By then, it is already 2 weeks past conception. Other factors like the length of the cycle also affects the due date. While if have a long cycle, the estimated due date will be later; if you have a shorter cycle, your due date will be earlier. That’s why pregnancy due date calculators are used to figure out the important dates.

As a pregnant parent, you must be anxiously waiting and preparing for the arrival of your little munchkin. In the final weeks of every pregnancy, one is even more impatient and has to also think about other things like getting the nursery ready, preparing the hospital bag, etc. Our EDD calculator helps you estimate the date you may be delivering. Even though it may not be the exact date, a full term baby arrives on or around the EDD. So with the help of our calculator, you can plan and prepare every small detail beforehand.

Again, all you have to enter in the delivery date calculator is the date of your last menstrual period. If you are unsure of that because you have irregular menstrual cycle, you can keep track using other menstrual tracking apps or contact your doctor.

Pregnancy Calculator Explanation:

Best date range for NT scan

Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan is an ultrasound screening test done around 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is commonly called as the First trimester screening. NT scan is usually accompanied by blood test. These procedures are done to screen your baby for Down’s syndrome and other chromosomal/genetic abnormalities.

Nuchal translucency means the clear space in the tissue behind the baby’s neck. While this is a common occurrence, babies with chromosomal or genetic abnormalities tend to have more than usual amount of fluid accumulated at the back of their neck during the first trimester. The base of the baby’s neck is transparent till 14 weeks. Hence, this scan is taken between 11-14 weeks of pregnancy.

If the baby is screened positive in the NT scan and the accompanied blood test, other procedures like amniocentesis are further done to confirm the condition. Thus, NT scan is a very important milestone in a pregnancy. Our due date calculator provides you the best range of dates when you can get your NT scan done from your nearest prenatal screening centre.

Morphology Scan date

Similar to the NT scan in your first trimester, another detailed scan is done in your second trimester to look for any structural or growth abnormalities. This scan is called the Morphology scan or foetal anomaly scan.
During this scan, different parts of the baby’s body are visualised and measured. Along with the baby’s body parts, the placenta, umbilical cord, amniotic fluid, your cervix and uterus are also examined. Our pregnancy calculator also gives you the best date for morphology scan to be done based on the other important dates.

First Heart tones by Doppler

As you realise you are pregnant, the first thing you would do is to rush to your OB-GYN, who would advise you to get a beta-HCG blood test done to confirm your pregnancy. Following which, she would ask you to come back around 11-12 weeks, to confirm the viability of the pregnancy.

This viability check is done by a simple Doppler test, which will you give you the most of both anxiety and excitement. Yes, the test through which you will be hearing your little Bub for the first time! No parent can ever forget the first time they hear the heartbeat of their child.

Through our pregnancy calculator, you can now know when is the right time you may be able to hear those first heart tones of your baby.

Best time to evaluate cervical length in patient with risk factors

Some pregnancies are called high risk pregnancies because of some conditions that put the baby in risk of preterm birth. In cases where the mother is prone to have complications or experiences signs of preterm labour, an ultrasound is done to check the length of the cervix.

As your body gets ready for labour, the cervix (opening of the uterus) softens and decreases in length. But if the cervix begins decrease before 37 weeks, there are chances of preterm labour and premature birth. Thus, cervical length is monitored in pregnant women, especially in those with history of premature birth, to reduce the risk and chart a plan to manage the pregnancy.

Our pregnancy calculator also provides you with optimal date when you should get your cervical length examined.

Best time for routine anatomy ultrasound

A routine anatomy scan is done between 18-22 weeks of your pregnancy to get a glimpse of your baby’s growth.
During this scan, anatomic structures of the baby is checked for growth and development and if it is in par with the expected average for the baby’s gestational age. You can now determine the right time to get this routine check done with the use of our pregnancy calculator.
