When Did I Conceive?

The conception date is the day on which your baby was conceived. In cases of in vitro fertilisation (IVF) or other assisted pregnancies, the exact date of conception is known or decided in advance. However in case of natural conception, it is very difficult to figure out the exact date on which you could have conceived your little one.

A woman can naturally conceive a baby only by having intercourse during her fertile window. The fertile window is a 3-5 day period in every woman’s menstrual cycle when the chances of getting pregnant are the highest. In some women, this even lasts upto 7 days.

To calculate a probable date of conception, your doctor may ask you for your last menstrual period and do some calculations. Similarly, our conception date calculator can estimate a probable date when you could have successfully conceived, assuming you have a regular cycle. This estimated date of conception can be used to estimate the baby’s due date and other important dates in your pregnancy.

Pregnancy Calculator Explanation:

Best date range for NT scan

Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan is an ultrasound screening test done around 12 weeks of pregnancy. It is commonly called as the First trimester screening. NT scan is usually accompanied by blood test. These procedures are done to screen your baby for Down’s syndrome and other chromosomal/genetic abnormalities.

Nuchal translucency means the clear space in the tissue behind the baby’s neck. While this is a common occurrence, babies with chromosomal or genetic abnormalities tend to have more than usual amount of fluid accumulated at the back of their neck during the first trimester. The base of the baby’s neck is transparent till 14 weeks. Hence, this scan is taken between 11-14 weeks of pregnancy.

If the baby is screened positive in the NT scan and the accompanied blood test, other procedures like amniocentesis are further done to confirm the condition. Thus, NT scan is a very important milestone in a pregnancy. Our conception date calculator provides you the best range of dates when you can get your NT scan done from your nearest prenatal screening centre.

Morphology Scan date

Similar to the NT scan in your first trimester, another detailed scan is done in your second trimester to look for any structural or growth abnormalities. This scan is called the Morphology scan or foetal anomaly scan.
During this scan, different parts of the baby’s body are visualised and measured. Along with the baby’s body parts, the placenta, umbilical cord, amniotic fluid, your cervix and uterus are also examined. Our conception calculator also gives you the best date for morphology scan to be done based on the other important dates.

First Heart tones by Doppler

As you realise you are pregnant, the first thing you would do is to rush to your OB-GYN, who would advise you to get a beta-HCG blood test done to confirm your pregnancy. Following which, she would ask you to come back around 11-12 weeks, to confirm the viability of the pregnancy.

This viability check is done by a simple Doppler test, which will you give you the most of both anxiety and excitement. Yes, the test through which you will be hearing your little Bub for the first time! No parent can ever forget the first time they hear the heartbeat of their child.

Through our conception calculator, you can now know when is the right time you may be able to hear those first heart tones of your baby.

Best time to evaluate cervical length in patient with risk factors

Some pregnancies are called high risk pregnancies because of some conditions that put the baby in risk of preterm birth. In cases where the mother is prone to have complications or experiences signs of preterm labour, an ultrasound is done to check the length of the cervix.

As your body gets ready for labour, the cervix (opening of the uterus) softens and decreases in length. But if the cervix begins decrease before 37 weeks, there are chances of preterm labour and premature birth. Thus, cervical length is monitored in pregnant women, especially in those with history of premature birth, to reduce the risk and chart a plan to manage the pregnancy.

Our conception date calculator also provides you with optimal date when you should get your cervical length examined.

Best time for routine anatomy ultrasound

A routine anatomy scan is done between 18-22 weeks of your pregnancy to get a glimpse of your baby’s growth.
During this scan, anatomic structures of the baby is checked for growth and development and if it is in par with the expected average for the baby’s gestational age. You can now determine the right time to get this routine check done with the use of our conception calculator.
